About the Author
Frank Stockton (1834-1902)
Frank Stockton was a popular novelist and short story writer. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1834 to a Methodist minister who discouraged him from writing. He refused to study medicine and became a wood engraver instead, supporting himself and his wife in this way until his father’s death in 1860. He published short stories in magazines for children at first, then wrote novels for adults. He is best known for his short story “The Lady or the Tiger”. Frank Stockton died of a brain hemorrhage in 1902.
